Julietta in Hoboken, NJ
When we heard that Julietta, a popular gelato spot located in the West Village was opening in Hoboken, we were a bit surprised as Il Laboratorio Del Gelato is close by, although less classic, and there are plenty of ice cream shops in the mile square city. But we decided to give it a try. For both gelato and Italian sandwiches in fact. Let’s start with the first one: gelato. Jodi got their coconut one that was good. On my side, I was excited because they had hazelnut and got a sample of it. I did not like it: it had lots of crystals in it that took over the taste of the beloved flavor. So I went for their Oreo cookie and pistachio. I did not finish my ice cream. The Oreo cookie lacked chunks of cookies and was boring, and the pistachio had a bitter taste that coated my mouth.

Next were the sandwiches. I went for the one with mortadella and pistachio, while Jodi ordered the caprese with tomato and mozzarella. For both of them, there was more focaccia than ingredients inside and, unfortunately, the focaccia was average, a bit dry. My sandwich was very disappointing as there were only a couple of slices of paper thin mortadella that I could barely taste. I would pass on the sandwiches as well.

Now, let’s talk about their bomboloni with chocolate as they call it. It is in fact Nutella, and I admit that it is very good, with plenty of Nutella inside. A must have. I would only recommend Julietta for this, going to Il Laboratorio del Gelato for gelato or Kikilu Gelato, and to Prato for a great Italian sandwich with a fantastic focaccia made daily.
