Wenwen, Taiwanese Restaurant in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Wenwen in Brooklyn

I never had Taiwanese food before, so I was excited to try Wenwen in Greenpoint, and learned that it a blend of Chinese cuisine and local cuisine with influence from Japanese cuisine as well. We arrived a little before 12pm on a Saturday and were the first to go in. Well, 15 minutes later, that place was packed, from the dining room to the bar. Their brunch menu is quite appetizing with a few vegetarian dishes like the fried tofu with garlic soy paste or the pea shoots with tofu skin. The former was my favorite: crispy on the outside, soft inside with a delicious sauce made with sichuan peppercorn. I also loved their Sacha hot honey popcorn chicken that was accompanied by a spicy sauce. It was so good that I did not care that my mouth was a bit on fire. But the best surprise was their Tater tot Dan Bin, a Chinese crepe filled with egg, cheddar and some tater tots for crunch. This is an interesting version of an egg sandwich that is a must have when going there. I should also mention their cocktails or more their mocktails, as I tried their Pining Passion that was made with pineapple, lemon, passion fruit, mint and seltzer. Refreshing, I was glad that it did have just a touch of passion fruit as this can overpower a drink.

Overall, we had a great brunch at Wenwen. We did not try their desserts as we were going somewhere else for it, so, this is another excuse to go back...

Enjoy (I did)!
